Descrizione

The Subaru Impreza WRC is a rally car that participated in the world championship from 1993 to 2008.

The debut of the Impreza in the world of rallying took place in 1993. The Legacy RS, its "ancestor", wasin fact it has become uncompetitive compared to the rival Ford Escort Cosworth and Toyota Celica ST185 and then Subaru World Rally Team, the racing department of the house of the Pleiades, then commissioned Prodrive to prepare the new Subaru Impreza according to Group A regulations. The car was then called "555" due to the sponsor of the time. His debut took place in the Rally of Finland with Ari Vatanen, Markku Alén and Colin McRae as drivers. In 1995 Mcrae and Sainz were reconfirmed, while a third car was lined up for Richard Burns in dirt races and for Piero Liatti in those on asphalt.

The season was exciting and both top drivers fought for the world championship, obtaining a total of 5 wins in 8 races (three by Sainz and two by McRae).

The title was won by Colin McRae who defeated Sainz in a sprint to the last race. Subaru won its first constructors' title at the end of the season, also thanks to the disqualification of Toyota.

The following season Sainz moved to Ford, while in Subaru, the Swede was chosen to support Mcrae Kenneth Eriksson and Piero Liatti.

Mcrae obtained 3 victories which, however, with as many accidents, were not enough to win the title, which was won by Tommi Mäkinen on Mitsubishi. However, this did not stop Subaru from winning the second consecutive constructors' title.
